United Churches of Langley support for the Starfish Back Pack Program is now a 12-month program.
Thanks to the support and generosity of our congregation, our partners and wider Langley community, both financial and in countless volunteer hours, we are well into our third year of this program.
We endeavour to assure children will be nourished over weekends and over holidays, including the summer months, and will come to school Monday mornings ready to learn. We continue to receive very positive reports back from the school principals, grateful parents and children reiterating that the Starfish Program makes a real difference to the children we support.
This year our program has grown to include two more elementary schools. We are now delivering 35 backpacks every week to Alice Brown, Blacklock, Douglas Park, Nicomekl and Wix-Brown elementary schools. We are partnering with the Langley School District Foundation, two Langley Rotary clubs, the Shewan Foundation, and Save-on-Foods to provide these thirty-five packs. Langley Drycleaners has been dry cleaning the packs for free every six months. We continue to gather at Brookswood Secondary School with the students from the Leadership Program and other interested students, to fill the packs ready for distribution to the schools.
In support of our Starfish Pack Program, on Sunday, April 15, 2018, we will be hosting a Soup & Bun lunch after worship at our Murravyille site. We hope you will join us for some delicious homemade soup, buns and dessert. All donations for the Starfish program will be appreciated!
