Our story today is often thought of as "the time Jesus was lost." We encounter the fear of Mary and Joseph, and are reminded of the precious things that we have lost in our own lives. This is a time to look at the world through the eyes of a growing child, who is beginning to find purpose in life. It may be a time to refresh our own purpose, and think about what is important, what we need to keep, what gifts we need to treasure, and what we need to release into the care of God.
