Our Refugee Sponsorship team is currently working hard to bring a family of 5 to Canada through group sponsorship, known as a Constituent Group (CG). It is a long process from creating an official team for the application, to finding a Sponsorship Agreement Holder (SAH), to the approval of funding from our Social Justice and Outreach Program, to application, preparation, arrival, and finally, to sponsorship.
According to the UNHCR, in 2022, the total number of people worldwide who were forced to flee their homes due to conflicts, violence, fear of persecution and human rights violations exceeded 100 million. This is more than double the 42.7 million people who remained forcibly displaced a decade ago and the most since World War II.
"People fleeing persecution and conflict have been granted asylum in foreign lands for thousands of years. The UN agency that helps refugees is UNHCR (also known as the UN Refugee Agency), which emerged in the wake of World War II to help Europeans displaced by that conflict.
...In a world where nearly 1 person is forcibly displaced every 2 seconds as a result of conflict or persecution, the work of UNHCR is more important than ever before." United Nations
