SUNDAY, February 1, 2026 after worship in Murrayville
OPPORTUNITY TO SUPPORT PEACE and FREE PALESTINE
through letter-writing campaign
On Sunday, February 1, I invite our UCoL family and friends to join me in the Upper Hall in Murrayville after worship to write letters in community.
Please come and invite others who might be supportive.
Together, we can make a difference!
Thank you,
Lisa Halliday
More Details:
Lisa Halliday (member of UCoL Social Justice and Outreach Team) attended the Mennonite Action Team meeting on zoom where we said prayers and looked into the Apartheid Free website. Kat Harris (who offered worship and a lunch and learn in September at UCoL) had suggested joining. Those who gathered decided on committing to being an Apartheid Free Group and filled out the online simple pledge form.
Our UCC Pacific Mountain Regional Council has pledged to be Apartheid Free.
On November 28, 2025, the Mennonite Action Team held a gathering at Langley Mennonite Church (LMC) where we watched a video and wrote letters either to Mennonite churches in the USA offering support in this challenging political landscape or to Canadian MPs and politicians to ask their support for Bill C-233, the Jenny Kwan "No Loopholes", which is a private member's bill approaching its 2nd reading in Parliament. Canadian law states that Canadians can not sell arms/munitions tools of war and to oppressive regimes in violation of human rights. A loophole allows these items to be sold to USA where they are then shipped to Israel. This is a circumvention of the law and is illegal.
The video was a stirring message of a Palestinian pastor Munther Isaacs 'Sermon to the West' speaking about the horrible conditions all Palestinians face regardless of their colour or religion. Harassment, violence, imprisonment of children under marshal law. Lack of human rights and youth detained for a year without charges explanation or being allowed legal representation for example. Houses and properties that have been in families sometimes for generations just being taken away by settlers. Cultural genocide is occurring as museums, schools and infrastructure are being bombed. There is a huge number of child casualties. I suggest you watch this video to gain a better understanding of the atrocities the Palestian people are living with every day.
Canada is a peacemaking country. Its citizens trust the government will do the right thing. They are sadly not taking action. The first step is to close the loophole allowing Canadian made armaments being used by Israel to raining down on Palestine.
I feel we need to let our government know this status quo will not be accepted. We want the loopholes closed.
