During the COVID-19 pandemic, farmers markets in British Columbia have been designated an Essential Service by the provincial government. So, the United Churches of Langley congregation is looking forward to another year of hosting the Fort Langley Village Farmers’ Market. Like previous years, it will be taking place on the church parking lot beside our historic St. Andrew’s chapel on 9025 Glover Road in Fort Langley, every Saturday 10am – 3pm, May through the end of October 2020.
This year, however, at least at the start of the season, the Farmers’ Market will be somewhat different. Necessary modifications to its layout, operation and practices will be implemented in order to comply with all recommendations and orders of the Public Health Officer and the BC Ministers of Health and Agriculture and to keep the shoppers and vendors safe. There will be a one-way no-stopping system in place with a reduced number of vendors. Only BC farmers, vendors of prepared foods and prepackaged liquor will be allowed to sell their products at the market for now.
Preparations and planning of the Murrayville Summer Farmers’ Market are underway as well.
The farmers’ markets we are hosting are an important part of living our Mission of being a Thriving congregation, that is Vital to the Community, Alive as followers of Jesus the Christ, and Sustainable for the Future.
