Worship Leader: Rev. Laurel Dykstra and Salal + Cedar

During the late summer and into the fall, when days are long, and crops are coming to maturity, the lectionary readings shared with Christians around the world tell of Jesus wandering the Galilean hillsides and valleys, multiplying loaves and calling himself the Bread of Life. This summertime of Jesus’ ministry where the hungry are fed if we only share, is a small-scale working model of the “New Earth” or God’s Kingdom in action. The ancient Celtic tradition of Lammas or Loaf-mass, celebrated on August 1 mid-way between the Summer Solstice and Fall Equinox, recognizes many of these same themes.
